I want to start learning about computer programming. Is java program is still needed today? Or it is outdated?

Java is still used in some cases. Limewire, for instance. PHP, Javascript, and Ajax are more prevalent, though.

Java technology is all over the place today ie. cell phones, podcast, internet, etc. Certainly NOT outdated and very much needed
Reply:don't listen to other people here , java is much more forgiving and highly recommended for beginners..
Reply:java can never be out of date it will always be important but you should choose a language that you think is best for you and is interesting so that you enjoy the process of learning and when u start programming u will enjoy it
Reply:java programming is still widely used for both new product development and internal application development. many of the major software companies, like IBM, Oracle, Google, Apple all use Java in some form or fashion.

Reply:Java is very much needed, but also very much a programmer's language. It would be very hard to learn as a first language.

I'd recommend starting with PHP ( a server side web language in high demand today, it has a similar format to java ( c++ and C# too ) will allow you to understand arrays, variables, ect... the main constructs of a programming language. After you get the concept down, you can expand out to object design techniques.

Learning a programming language is just like learning a foreign language. Once you "get it" the rest come fairly easy. Kinda like when you learn Spanish, you can learn French and Italian much easier. The easiest way to "get it" is to immerse yourself in the "culture".

Good luck.
Reply:means i think u r non software guy...trying to shift to the software.right???

if u ant to learn programing just learn C first that will be the base of all languages..and you can find difficulty and t will let you ease in learning other programing languages...then you can go for Java or .NETor c++ what ever you wht..knowing C is must for every programmer........

in muy opinion Java life never ends...bcoz itz the heart of application nowwhere........NET is competing with Java ofcourse......but in Java there are many facilities

first you have to decide in which area you are kean to go through i mean there will be several areas for programming....

just think few days and start learning....learning Javaa takes some time...you must have patience with it...once you learned that you will b the ultimate........but u have to learn ultimatelyyy.....

any way all the best mannn,

cheers,

Reply:Java is the current popular programming language. However, since the technology field changes so fast and often all the time, by the time you're done learning everything about Java, the language will change. Its not the language you learn, its the concept of how to do things that is important in learning your programming.
