What are some good computer programs for tracking kids online activities?

Occasionally, my preteen is alone at the computer and lately I've become concerned. What are some good programs to use to find out where they've been online or what has been said -- not because I am a "diary reader", but because I want to protect her from harm.

What are some good computer programs for tracking kids online activities?
There are many to track but don't know the names, But why track anyways the damage would be done and too late when you find out, I would purchase a product called Net Nanny It will block access to everything that you feel UN-accatable like adult sites and chat rooms, All you need to get tracker or nanny is go to a computer store like best buy its that simple. You ARE doing the right thing by wanting to know what your kids are doing and I could care less what the others think!
Reply:simplest answer is talking to your children and explain the importance of internet. children will find a way to bypass any program that your install or download.

Also trusting your children is very important factor.

you can look at history of websites where your children has went.
Reply:The simplest way to check what your kids are looking at are to just check the web browsers history when he's done surfing the web.

I guarentee your kids are more computer savvy than you think and if they want to get to a website they will find a way to do it no matter what type of software you use to prevent them from doing so. There's software out there that will do what you want however I reccommend simply talking with your kids and guiding them through whatever they discover. The internets a great medium for learning, fun, networking, etc... You shouldn't let a few sadistic sites out there keep your child from being able to experience these things. He/She will discover them evenutually and grow up faster than you think there's nothing you can do about that.

Please do not spy on your kids, I know you want what's best for them, but speak to a psychologist there are negative mental health effects that occur when you have no privacy as a child, you could be stunting them for life.
Reply:Obviously, the people on here who say "Talk to your kids" don't have any teenagers in the house! You can talk till the sky turns green and they're still going to get into things they shouldn't and meet predators online. Talk to your kids. Now there's a good idea! Geez people. Go substitute teach in your local high school. I dare you! See how much they care about what you have to say. You'll learn!
Reply:well there are none that i have heard about... but come on place some trust in the kid seriously.. this is not nice because it becomes an obsession and it does not give the kids the ability to do what they want.. u can track the internet now but what about later?? so man just chill and dont do this.. believe me you dont want to.. :)
Reply:No, you ARE a "diary reader". Spying on kids is not acceptable. If you are worried then either tell her that you will monitor her use of the internet or restrict her access by using a Parental Control program - they cost around $20 and will allow you to set up a white-list of sites, block sites, and set time limits.
