What is a really good computer program for a mechanic to use to keep track of customers and the work he's done

I have a local mechanic that is wanting to get a computer in his garage so he can type in a customer's name and retrieve information on that customer and the history of the vehicle. Such as work done, when, notes, warranties, guarantees and so forth.

Anyone have any suggestions for a good record keeping program for this purpose?

I use Quickbooks, and that works pretty good.

But you could use Microsoft Excel. It's a spreadsheet, probably the most general-purpose program ever designed. You can use it like a database or for computing bills, etc.
Reply:for something cheap and easy to use check out www.autotalk.net the program automotive expert, you get a 45 day free trial, its not as good as some other programs but its decent
Reply:Alldata or Mitchell 1. Both are designed for the automotive repair industry and include besides customer databases, complete diagnostic aids, vehicle information databases, recommended service intervals, parts and labor estimators, canned jobs, etc. Alldata is generally considered the superior product right now.
Reply:There are a number of both pay for as well as free software programs that will allow you to track customers and view past work sheets. Do a search of freeware and start lookink under accounting or book keeping.

OpenOffice is a free suit of software that will do everything microsoft's Office software will do, and did I say it's free!!
