I want to start learning computer programming by myself. Where should I start?

I believe it is a good idea to have a look at books with titles like 'Introduction to programming', then pick up a book on introductory programming in C# (C Sharp) or Java.

I want to start learning computer programming by myself. Where should I start?
C++ or Java are old standbys and they have large industry buy-in. However, they take quite a bit of learning to get started. Java is the easier of the two. Try Bruce Eckel's free Thinking in Java or Thinking in C++. The C++ is what my CS dept used to teach the C++ course.

I would recommend getting started with a friendlier language like python or ruby. They are more forgiving and require less time before you're able to write your first program. Both are freely available and have good docs on the web.

Reply:Before learning any programming language, it is good to understand the basics of computer science. This will provide you an understanding of what programming is all about.

After understanding the basics you could choose an easy to understand programming language like VB for learning. Once you start programming in one language it would be easier for you to learn others.

One book I recollect is:

Schaum's Outline of Introduction to Computer Science
Reply:Clarify please.

How to make a computer. Or how to make and code and mantain a website ?

I own a website http://www.liz.adorability.org so if you need help learning email me at liz@adorability.org.
