Question about programming 08gt computer?

I know there are different tuners, but what exactly are they for? I've seen some Cold Air Filters like JLA and BBK that need a tune when you buy them. Is the tuning just for the CAI or for the whole car? What would be the benifit of tuning the car? Would it be worth it?

Question about programming 08gt computer?
I recently got a C%26amp;L cold air intake with Diablosport tuner package for my 05 GT. It was suggested by the manufacturer that the tune be changed since the cfm intake would be so much higher the air/fuel ratio would need to be changed. I'm happy I went this way because the performance is great and it sounds good too. I also plan on using the tuner for addition modification in the future that require a custom tune. If you plan on doing a lot of mods I would definately suggest a tuner. If you get really into it you can even start tweaking the custom tunes yourself. Can be a lot of fun if you know what you're doing.
Reply:The tuner compensates for the extra air coming in thru the mass air flow sensor to keep the car from leaning out is why they recommend it. But most people who add CAIs are also looking for more performance gains and a tuner usually will optimize performance based on what a programmer has figured the best performace gains without going over on emissions are.
Reply:for minor changes like that you do not need a tune your computer is smart enough to accomedate for the changes, tuners are generally for big modifications like power adders such as nitrous, superchargers and turbos, or if the engine is highly modified with a port and polish job and all types of stuff that would change the flow of air threw the engine not just a filter or a set of pipes, a tuner can be used with minor changes or even a stock car to make improvments to performance and economy but sometimes its not worth the money, i myself have a 88gt with a 347 stroker superchargered with many modifications and i use a tweecer tuner which can be used on any ford with fuel injection because all fords with fuel injection have a special port that this piggy back style tuner can be used with so if u do decide on getting a tuner i would suggest a tweecer but in my opinion this early in your modifications you can ditch the idea of spendin 500+ dollars for a tuner
