w3schools.com
What resources are available for people who are new to computer programming?
First and foremost you need to register with a computer training institution, this will give you a better leverage on computer programming.
Secondly, the computer machines of the twenty - first century had been manufactured with some programming support tools. Thus aside from the help and support menu on some basic computer programming tools (i.e. Microsoft Troubleshooting), each programme be it microsoft and or others like sage line, finacle, cobol, corel draw e.t.c are easily programmed with the needed support.
Therefore, you just need to equip yourself with basic training programmes by as student of a recongnised institution as well as be friedly with your computer's supporting softwares in troubleshooting.
Reply:JimmyR is right, for web related programming, you can't beat W3Schools.com. However, if you are doing programming using Microsoft tools, you have to keep bookmarks in the MSDN Library. They have references for all their products online. Likewise, if you are going to be programming in Java, you will keep bookmarked their API pages.
Now, the above stuff is FREE and on the internet. However, I best learn new things reading books, so I can try things at my own pace. While there are a ton of good Microsoft oriented books out there, THERE IS NO BETTER BOOK for learning Java than "Head First Java" from O'Reilly Publishing by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates.
Also, speaking about FREE, you can download all the software to create J2SE 5.0 Java programs free from Sun (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.... It has a great Netbeans IDE (interactive development environment) that helps you with your syntax.
Reply:There's also the over looked 'Google' for finding answers and the Yahoo Groups themselves.. There's MANY programming groups on Yahoo that help people get their feet wet.
